Anxious Patients

Gentle dentistry with caring staff

Not everyone enjoys a trip to the dentist and at Aim Dental Group, we understand that many patients are anxious about attending the practice for an appointment. With this in mind, we like to reassure all new and existing patients that when they come to our practices, they’ll always be put at ease. We use various techniques to help with anxiety and will always ensure that patients are relaxed before proceeding with treatment.

Whether you go to the dentist regularly, or you haven’t been for a check-up in years, we’re here to help you maintain good oral health and our team will never make you feel embarrassed or anxious.

At Aim Dental Group, all of our dental staff are trained to help patients address and even overcome any fears they have about the dental chair and dentistry services. Some patients find that they have fear and embarrassment about informing the dentist of their fears. If this is a concern, please do inform our receptionist when you book an appointment. A note will then be made in your file, so that your dentist will know to discuss this with you in a caring and sensitive manner and respect your concerns and fears.

There are various things you can do from the outset to make your visit to us a more pleasant one, especially:

Booking your appointment at a time of the day when you will feel most relaxed

Arranging to come into the practice when you know you have enough free time to do so (this will reduce stress)

Giving yourself plenty of time to travel to the practice, which will again reduce stress and anxiety

We’ll discuss your treatment with you fully beforehand, so you’ll always be aware of what’s going on and can prepare for this. There will be no unpleasant surprises and we’ll do our best to make you feel comfortable and relaxed.

You can also tell us at any stage if you want treatment to stop, and you can arrange a signal with your dentist or hygienist to alert them to this, for example raising your hand. Treatment will only start again once you’re settled and happy to proceed. This can help you feel more in control of the situation. Music can also be played in the treatment room as preferred, or a favourite DVD can be put on for you to watch. We can also organise sleep dentistry (sedation) upon request.
